Plea to Call Congress and Oppose GOP Healthcare Bill 3.0 AHCA / TrumpCare

2017-May-2

This morning I wrote an email to members of my family asking them to call Congressboth the House and Senateto oppose passage of the new Republican Healthcare bill, the AHCA, a.k.a., TrumpCare, RyanCare, WealthCare, and NoCare.

I asked them to do this even though here in California we are a step closer to getting universal healthcare with our state legislature’s Senate Health Committee passage (5-1) of healthcare bill .

Nonetheless, for the sake of those who are not as fortunate, I hope you, too, will encourage everyone you know to call their Representatives and Senators today to oppose a bill so bad that Congress has exempted themselves and their staffers from it.

Congress should not be allowed to ever exempt themselves from laws they enact for the rest of us. To make good law that is always in the interest of their constituents, Congress should be required to be impacted by the laws they pass, as we are. If we got rid of their Congressional pensions and forced them to rely on Social Security after retirement, as well as forced them to rely on Medicare or Medical if they could not afford healthcare, I have no doubt they would make sure to fully fund Social Security, Medicare and Medical.

And, while we’re at it, what if we passed campaign finance reform, and cut off all the many ways lobbyists buy our Congress’ votes, like offering them jobs after they leave Congress? What if we refused to allow Congress to vote themselves raises, but instead it was left to the American people to vote them a raise? Congress would be responsive to us, their constituents, and we would all live in a much better country.

(*Stepping off my soapbox now.*) Thanks, -Martie | Blue Beach Song

Hi Family,

After you read my email, if you agree, I hope you will call our Congressional representatives in the House 202-225-3121 and Senate 202-224-3121 – press 2 to reach your representative – to oppose the AHCA/TrumpCare healthcare bill, which they are trying to pass this week. (See sample script and information below.)

  • The latest healthcare bill, AHCA/Trumpcare, will leave over 24 million people without affordable healthcare. Older Americans (50-64) and people with pre-existing conditions will be left without any or any affordable healthcare, depending on where they live. Over 1 million veterans may be left with no healthcare. Congress is repealing ACA/Obamacare, which banned insurance companies from denying anyone coverage because of a pre-existing condition or from charging them more.
  • AHCA/Trumpcare will allow health insurance companies to return to putting annual and lifetime limits on how much healthcare they will give you – something the ACA/Obamacare banned. Meaning, health insurance companies will be allowed to decline to pay for your healthcare costs that exceed their “limits” if you happen to get really sick one year or over your lifetime. This is how many families went bankrupt and lost their homes before ACA/Obamacare.
  • Congress, however, has exempted themselves and their staffers from this healthcare bill, their own AHCA healthcare bill. That tells you that even they don’t think it is good healthcare law.
  • Congress has not vetted their AHCA bill, they have not gotten a Congressional Budget Office budget impact score, they have not held any Congressional hearings to get the feedback from the healthcare industry or healthcare workers or consumers.
  • Doctors, nurses, hospitals, AARP, and other consumer and patient-oriented organizations strongly oppose this healthcare bill.

Healthcare should be a right for everyone, not a privilege only for those who can afford it. Healthcare should be no different than police and fire protection.

It is so important for so many. Please call your Congressional Representatives to oppose the AHCA/Trumpcare, if you agree & if you can.

Love, Martie
